Worksheet5 Knowing when to stop
Knowing when to stop | 5.4
Nothing lasts for ever, and a time may come when the cluster has reached the end of its useful life. It is much better to recognise this than to continue on autopilot with something which has outlived its usefulness.
This is less likely to happen if every so often – perhaps once a year – the cluster formally reviews its performance and the value which members are deriving from it. There are two reasons for this:
- first, if the cluster has reached the end of the road, such a review will make it apparent;
- but, secondly, the process of reflecting explicitly on the value it is delivering will make it easier for the cluster to identify and make adjustments which prevent it from drifting into redundancy.
